I am being inundated by emails, purporting to come from Tesco, Lidl, Argos, Shell etc, etc, all emanating from Hub 83 in Tallahassee.  Anyone else suffering the same?I don't acknowledge them, they go straight in the bin, but I am sure others must answer them, or worse still, download the vouchers/attachments they bring.

I take it I am the only one getting these emails then?  There are two or three in my spam folder every morning.

I often get emails from the tax man, old friends I've never known, account warnings from banks I have no account with and such, but my all time fave is the the one titled "Massage from Interpol" which I have yet to claim.

That's probably not the original source Jocko.  It'll just be some poor sap that's been hacked where you email address resides.  Could be anything you've bought online from anywhere - the fact it's in Tallahassee has no bearing on the matter - it'll just be wherever the hoster is.

I kept getting emails from Teresa May and David Cameron.  They turned out to be real due to the fact that I'd raised an issue with my local MP.  He was good enough to respond with a personal reply addressing the issue, but I ended up on the Conservatives email list!

I have my own hosted personal domain and use webmail rather than a PC client.  My hoster seems pretty hot on their spam filters and I only occasionally (less than once a month) get spam coming through.

    Cheers, Reg.

I too get the usual phishing emails but these ones all appear to come from genuine companies with all the detailed artwork and such.  It is just the fact they have this Tallahassee business address, on the bottom, which makes them intriguing.

OK, some small amount of googling over the lunchtime cheese and pickle sheds some light.

Hub83 is a company that offers shared and dedicated managed office facilities in the US, mainly around the Chicago area.  I.E. If you are starting up a business you rent an office, or even just a desk in one of these facilities and get access to professional office space including receptionist, communications services (including high speed interweb) and meeting rooms etc.  I used exactly the same sort  of facility when I set up my own company back in 1992 (albeit in the less romantic location of Milton Keynes) until I'd grown the business large enough and with enough employees to justify the cost of our own offices.

Some crim has obviously just used their name because it's unlikely to be traceable due to the fact it's all shared space.  In fact Hub83 don't even list Florida as one of their locations.  Was the claimed street address:

    Hub83
    75 N Woodward Ave #85873
    Tallahassee, FL 32313

    ?

What you need to do is go into one of the mails, look at the properties and from the mail headings you should see the "originator" (although being spam this will only be a relay point in terms of someones PC that's been hacked and the real originator will be untraceable without the security forensics available to specialist companies -like the one I work for :-)

Don't worry about the artwork and pictures.  Go into any site and you can cut and paste images.  In fact, for example, just google "Tesco logo images" and you'll be presented with a raft of them to cut and paste into whatever you want.  That's how the crims make this stuff look so plausible.  They often provide links to the real sites within their mails in an attempt to get you to click on their links and open attachments.

    Cheers, Reg.

Yes, that's it.  Got to feel sorry for the poor souls that sign up or download "vouchers".
