my approach may outline a user that you didn't know about; the one that likes to browse and not be dynamically engaged, or if they do, it's by their choice.
Clearly, that perspective was not wanted, as you've made it personal, and have taken your shots at me, and proceeded to denigrate me as if I were psychoanalyzing you.
Best,
Sean
You can imagine how difficult it is to understand how I can help when so many of your observations of my site were mixed with your general feelings about other websites and misunderstandings of what you thought were and were not rollovers. You say on one hand that you deliberately tried avoiding the side tabs because you believed from experience you knew they were rollovers yet you then say your experiences were deliberately designed to look through the eyes of someone who has not!
All I asked was for feedback on the changes! Not to imagine yourself as a first time user.
I just needed specific feedback.
It seems then that all your issues were then bases around the menu itself. It is clear from your screen shot you must be using either an incredibly low res screen or maybe a mobile phone or tablet to look at the screen as the menu takes up the whole screen.
Certainly something for me to keep an eye on. Will do some testing on my kids ipads but I am sure that you must have the magnify settings very high for that to appear.
Thanks anyway for letting me know your views. It just took me a long long time to pick out the nuts and bolts from the lengthy and sometimes complex feedback.
In terms of absolutes, this is one of the best 'selling' websites I've seen for guitars. I particularly like the:
Speed and ease to see the various ranges
The quality and quantity of the photographs
The clear and full detail descriptions
That you can choose to see all makes in a particular category or specific makes
Then in terms of making what is already good even better:
As folk have already said - the pesky pop-up! It's (almost) fine for a desktop but in the way for a tablet
The 'Further Important Pages' items look like "small-print" items rather than important menu links. Now I know, I can find the other bits but a new visitor might well miss them. Maybe just increase the font size or bold or something?
Quite a few of the links - particularly the specific makers in the A-Z section, even when I know there are those makers' guitars on the site - go to the general 'all guitars' page.
Overall, though, a great starting off point and I know you are putting in a lot to make it even better.
Andy
Hi Andy
Thank you. Yes, the links are small and no doubt I will keep an eye on this to see how people react to them. Thank you!
Page times have been improved by hardcoding much of the site that was using external "apps". I am really pleased. I am also looking at minimising the scrolling further by having set "tabs" so general, tech specs, etc. like you see on many sites - it just means you see the text when you want to see it and cuts down the scrolling to the bottom of the page if you dont need to.

I don't know what the thing is with my screen relative to yours. I am on a tiny Acer Netbook, and I'm glad the screenshots have helped you see my perspective. However that helps you to improve it, is a good thing, if it does.
I'll take the hit on my approach to your site, that of being a first time visitor. I took that approach because that's kind of what I've asked others to do, considering the newly revamped site that I've just put up over here this past week, one that was over a year in the making.
I figured that they could give me insight into what a first time user might think, and I was just following that same reasoning as well, thinking that was the point. So, that's my error in applying that reasoning to your site, when I went to evaluate it.
I am immensly grateful for anyone - who provides feedback that i can relate to.
It is just regetable that your initial comments were very very long and winding and seemed as has since been demonstrated brought in many of your general views and observations and feelings about websites in general.
My reply was merely demonstrating my frustration at trying to piece together what comments I could actually help with and those that were simply un-answerable.
From your screen shot I have been able to work out that you are using a tablet and indeed depending on resolution settings a large menu may be a problem.
However, the use of tablets, Ipads, phones all bring various problems to overcome beyond the "normal". For a small business it is nigh on impossible to keep tags and development in every form of browsing possibility these days but the stats so far show people being very pleased with it and you are the only person to mention this - but that too is useful as people DONT give you negative feedback - they just dont come back.
My experience if browsing a website that looks interesting but is rubbish on a tablet is that I would jump on my pc when I got home etc.
Thanks agains for your time and effort and sorry that I was rattled by your initial presentation shall we call it!

These days the majority of users only have a tablet or smart phone. PC's are last generation and only we "oldies" still use them.

In which case the site clearly does work on the majority or the pages views and time spent on the site would have gone down not up!
Anyone out there on an Ipad? Let me know!
I just had a go on the ipad and it looked great.
You dont accidentally open up the top menu as you have to put your finger on the screen to click open the menu bar.
I am trying to remove my ugly mug off the chat bar and stop it from popping up - technicial issues!
