Might I suggest that when we get spam threads started, and it is obvious they are spam, we do not read them to check. If we all ignore the spam, and the posters see no views, they might think it a futile exercise and take their spam elsewhere.
I do exactly that then drop a morning email to Richard who then takes the appropriate action. However I'm off to Spain tomorrow for a week without my laptop so maybe someone else can take over for next week.
Like Megi says, you need to view it in order to get to the notify button. Stickyfiddle is pretty efficient with deleting the spam, accepting that he is not married to the forum and online 24/7.
There's usually someone around to notify the mods, who then seem to deal with it pretty quickly. This forum is no worse than others I've been involved with over the years. I think I'm often the first to see a lot of it, since I visit at odd times of the day because I work nights and usually have a look when I finish work in the small hours, so I probably see more of it than most. But I notify the mods and it's gone within a few hours. I don't think spammers work on how many views something gets ... they register and post as much as they can before being banned, and that's that.
It is my forum after all and I don't expect Sticky to have to do this as he has a life after all!!
I get a bit fed up of any criticism in this area because I have lost count of how many times I have said...
Email me richard@richardsguitars.co.uk a link to the offending post
I delete it - and the user.
Just Tel has been utterly brilliant recently and the second I see his email I deal with it.
If one or two other forum users could be as pro active it would help.
I still find it strange just how few forum users approach me directly over any issue yet are so quick to criticise in certain areas via the forum than with me directly when its me who will make the change for the better.
I suppose I am thinking about the recent diaries thread - nobody contacted me directly yet we were able to sort that out pretty quickly by chatting about it.
Anyway - I am always here if anyone wants to chat - and as far as I am aware the forum is a pretty spam free zone considering its #1 on google for forums etc.
I am 100% on it and because I am, you don't see it!!! (Thanks to Just Tel too!!)
I see the spammers were out in force this morning, just got through doing a full system scan because i inadvertently clicked on one of their links and got flagged immediately with an exploit java/cve virus.

The secret is to click on Active Topics along the top header which will give the gist of the post without having to actually click onto it.That way you can instantly see that it's spam without having to click onto their links which only confirms to the spammers that people are clicking their links which makes the posting worthwhile for them.

I have a memory like a sieve!!!!
And Lester I believe!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh I am like an old man in more ways than one...
Richard, would you prefer us to send an email rather than use the notify facility or are these just two ways of doing the same thing?
It is still emailed to me so yes that is fine! Thank you.
