Is it the Samsung we know as makers of tv's etc though or a different firm?
That could be a hard thing to determine.

Samsung has been making electronics since the 1960's. Korean pick ups on a Korean guitar. Makes sense.

With there being a gap between the Sam Sung Still not sure about that! I did find out that the early to mid 90's Korean Epiphones did use these pickups as standard for a short while. They didn't sound too bad either.

Apparently the Korean language - Hangul - splits words into syllables so it is perfectly understandable that in some instances Samsung could be written Sam Sung when using Latin script instead of Korean script.
However I did find this on one site:

"Thank you for your interest in Gibson.
Sam Sung pickups are not pickups that we have used on our Epiphone guitars, so they must have been mounted afterwards.

Thanks for the info Jocko, I've just done a little more digging on Epiphone LP sites, and a few guys who have upgraded their pickups pulled sam sung pickups out of their 1990's Les Pauls,Apparently they were fitted in Dots, Sheratons, Lp specials, and LP standards and Customs. Another guy wrote to Gibson and got this reply.

    Dear Chris,

    Thank you for your reply.
We don’t have much info on these pickups, that’s the problem- there were only few people aware of the fact that we had these pickups on Epiphone guitars installed.
I don’t think that Samsung will have more info on these pickups either, but you can give it a try of course.
If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me again.

    Kind regards,

It's amazing what you can do with a wet afternoon and Google. Beats watching the telly.

Yes it's been an interesting and enlightening day on the PC, beats sitting out in the British summer hands down lol, and your right about the TV, thats been redundant with me for quite a time now.

Andrew, those Sam Sung pickups were OK indeed, I might put them to good use in a LP project some time.

I bought an Epiphne SG. It was made in 91 in the Samick factory and it has these pickups in. They are ok pickups; certainly not bad and good enough that I'm not inclined to swap them out (yet) as they do the job.
