Will I hear it through the monitor?

I am playing a bigger venue on friday where the soundman will di my line 6 flextone into the pa system.

I've never done this before, so will the sound still come out of my amp or will it just come out of the pa and I will hear it through the monitor?

Cheers,
Andy

It'll still come out through your amp. I'm surprised he wants to DI, though. Even on a modelling amp, a lot of the sound is shaped by the speakers themselves. Ordinarialy, I would have stuck an SM57 in front of one of the cones, and run that to the PA, but I guess your guy knows what he's doing.

As CJ says. Similar to a mic XLR into PA link. The bonus is you can have your amp as loud or quiet as suits you on stage, irrespective of the volume that the HUGE audience will hear via the mixing desk and PA.

The gig is at COX'S YARD THIS FRIDAY people!

The advantage of DI is that it's pre-master volume for the amp, so you can adjust your own stage level without the sound man swearing at you. It works OK for my acoustic amp, but I can fully understand why most guitar amps get miked up to PA for better tone. Try and hear your PA tone in isolation during the soundcheck and ask for the amp to be miked if you don't like it.

Hope to be there Friday, break a limb!
