I wish that guitarists would stick to what they do best rather than try to be singers who happen to play the guitar. How much better would Eric Clapton have been if he hadn't shot the sherrif? His CD with BB King, "Driving With the King", could have been a marvelous celebration of the blues guitar. Unfortunately, it was a collection of songs with incidental guitar muzak added.
George Benson is a wonderful jazz guitarist, but not a lot of people would guess that from his records.
Mark Knopfler comes to mind, too.
