My daughter has an interest in the guitar

Hi,

Any suggestions please.

My nearly 8 year old daughter has at last started to show an interest in playing the guitar. Now I've looked at a couple of 3/4 'student' classical guitars but have been far from impressed.

So any other ideas, been looking at a few travel guitars but these can get a bit expensive (if I knew it would be looked after if she takes it to school then I wouldn't mind spending a bit more).

Squier do mini strats, which are probably a bit too small - but they're sold at 90 quid kinda mark at the shop I work at. They're half-size I think?

Squier also sell numerous 3/4 size strats. So if you're after an electric, they're good guitars to start with.

Or you could look at fenders acoustics, I believe they do some 3/4 sizes. There's also a fender acoustic that's called the parlour guitar or something? Thats got a smaller body and neck, although it's not actually 3/4 size as far as I'm aware.

Best of luck, and congrats on bringing a musician in to the world!

    They're just hte well-known makes.

Maybe a Taylor Baby? Then you can steal it too!

Can't quite run to a Taylor Baby, besides not sure I'd be happy with her taking it to School.

Thought I'd 'borrow' whatever we get anyway. Made a bit of a list last night of 3/4 ish guitars at various price points:

    Cheap (£50 - £70 ish)
    Squier MA1
    Dean Playmate JT
    Yamaha JR-1

    Bit more (£80 - £120 ish)
    Tanglewood Sapling

    Serious stuff (£120 +)
    Tanglewood sapling ST
    Crafter TGV-23
    Fender TG4
    Takemine Takemini
    Taylor Baby

    Silly Money
    LX1 Little Martin

Anybody played any of these ?. Realistically we're looking at something costing not much more that £100 and ideally a bit less.

I'm looking at buying a Tanglewood Elf EE12 for my daughters. One is 5 1/2 the other is 6 3/4. They will have to share the guitar with each other and my amp with me. RRP is £79.99 although I've actually seen it online cheaper.

Richard from Regent said he was happy to recommend it and would build a package around one on the website on Friday, but he hasn't done it yet.

Waiting for availability and price discussions with Regent.

    Edvaldo,

Thought about getting a 3/4 electric but decided that the acoustic route would be better as they teach it at school as well and they can also play it in the school orchestra. Also we can both sit down together in the evening and practice.

daisy rock pixie series. not a bad guitar, for a whole set: guitar, picks, strap, case etc. £180.

Looked at the Pixie but it's a full size guitar with a slightly smaller body. Not sure if it will be a bit big to start with.

Somebody mentioned getting a 'plastic' bowl backed electro as they are really thin and will take knocks a bit better than timber, but again they are full sized.
